I am not a big fan of racing games. I find them repetitve and way too hard. There are some exceptions. Mario Kart, Need for
Speed Underground and Sega GT. They break the mold and make racing fun. Another one to add to this list is Track Mania: Nations
for the PC. It is fast, addictive and fun.
It has a very solid single player mode. It has many premade tracks that you can race on to get you skills amped. They
have methods to see how fast you can do these tracks, the expected Gold, Silver and Bronze. You can reset the race very easily
and it makes it feel that it is ok to mess up. The tracks get very hard to do as you progress.
It's multiplayer is all right as well. It is not exceptional, like Halo 2's but it is not im possible to get into a game(Age
of Empires 2). You pick your country and you find servers that in your country you picked. Then, you get in and you race.
But not in the conventional way. You race for time. Who ever has the fastest time, wins. You might ask, "What about, can you
just go backwards and win?" Well, no. Frequently, the tracks are not loops, not a single strecth. Secondly, the ends are usally
up in the air. And thirdly, there are checkpoints. This method of multiplayer is nice, becuase you can mess up a jump at 500
MPH, and just restart, and still have a chance at winning.
One great thing about this game is that it comes with a track editor. It is very easy to use, allowing you to make the
track of your dreams. It also allows you to put music, premptive movies and even some sricpting. Even better, Nadeo has set
up a site to help you download good tracks and upload you own. It is very user friendly, and has good feedback.
There are some bad things about this game. For one, there is a lack of bots in any modes. That isn't bad, if you have multiplayer.
But it is when your internet is down. Secondly, there is lack of cars that you can use. Also, they all handle the same, which
levels the playing feild in multiplayer. Thirdly, then environments are non exsisted. It all takes place on a green field
in a stadium.
