Mechs are not new. They have been around for a while, on the PC in the games Mech Warrior 1,2,3 and 4. In this game,
Mech Assualt, Mechs come to the Xbox. They are huge, 35-100 ton war machines that specialize in destroying everything in their
path. This game is good game, which is carried by the multiplayer.
This game's single player is very solid. It boasts a long, interesting story, that consists of odd radicals and then somehow
gets to they will destory the universe. The story is good and keeps you playing. What really draws you in though, is the gameplay.
You have never played as a 35-ton Mech before and it intrigues you. Some missions require brute strength, while others are
basically running away from everything. It is not very open-ended, but there is a fair amount of action. While you can not
get out of the mech, or run around, it is still fun. There is a good variety of mechs to be and use and they all handle differently,
complete with different weapons and specials.
This game's multiplayer is what salvages it. There is Xbox Live multiplayer. There are several types of games that you
can host or join. You have your normal CTF, deathmatch and team deathmatch. The people on Xbox Live in this game are very
good, so it is tough to get good without being called a noob several times. For split screen, there is a fun little game where
you and another player try to survive as long as you can without dying.
Pros- Good Xbox Live
- OK Story
- good selection of mechs
Cons- Bland Graphics
- Hard Online play
Final score: 8.5/10
